‘This world fucking sucks’. We say it on a regular basis. Whether it’s housing prices, inflation, the war in Ukraine, the fires, the famines, climate control, pandemics. For the young, it’s a mantra that’s become a part of the day-to-day. Insanity turned into mundanity. Powerless and exhausted, youth nowadays have no blueprint to navigate this world. Education just means a lifetime worth of debt, hard work just makes the rich richer, and the dream to have the bare minimum is becoming narrower and narrower. There’s no one to turn to. No one seems to get it.
At least Cassyette is brave enough to talk about it. She states it in the title of her longawaited album - This World Fucking Sucks. After the success of her EP Sad Girl Mixtape and a sold-out UK tour, her upcoming album This World Fucking Sucks is an anthology of the collected feelings that address the nature of living in a society hell-bent on keeping young people disconnected and segregated. It’s a tantrum. A coming-of-age. A realisation that the world doesn’t serve its inhabitants and how the ‘wasted youth’ subsection of society is at odds with a world that doesn’t recognize them as complete, valid or capable of making impact. This World Fucking Sucks is a shoulder - a shoulder to cry on, an arm wrapped around your shoulder, a punch on the shoulder, a place to pull over when the road is long and you’ve been driving on fumes. She hasn’t got all the answers yet, but Cassyette is building up to a revolution and This World Fucking Sucks is Chapter One in a narrative you hope she seizes control of. She holds open her hand and says - ‘This world fucking sucks... but we’re in this together.’
